We study a " burst " event, i. e. the evolution of an initial condition having support only in a finite interval of k-space, in the continuum shell model due to Parisi [1]. We show that the continuum equation without forcing or dissipation can be explicitly written in characteristic form and that the right and left moving parts can be solved exactly. When this is supplemented by the appropriate...
متن کاملApplications of Continuum Shell Model
The nuclear many-body problem at the limits of stability is considered in the framework of the Continuum Shell Model that allows a unified description of intrinsic structure and reactions. Technical details behind the method are highlighted and practical applications combining the reaction and structure pictures are presented.
متن کاملInternal shocks in short bursts
The main evidence of the internal-external scenario within the fireball model of GRBs is their high variability. External shocks cannot produce variable bursts and therefore, according to this model, the γ − ray emission produced by internal shocks while the afterglow produced by the following external shock. So far the variability was shown only in long bursts (BATSE T90 > 2sec) . It is not kn...
متن کاملPionic decay of L hypernuclei in a continuum shell model
The pionic decay of L hypernuclei has received attention in the past both from the experimental @1–7# and theoretical @8–22# points of view ~for a recent review see Ref. @23#!. It is well known that the mesonic decay is largely suppressed by Pauli blocking, although the consideration of proper pion distorted waves @13,16,20# weakens the effect of the Pauli blocking considerably. On the other ha...
متن کاملPionic decay of Λ Hypernuclei in a Continuum Shell Model
We evaluate pionic decay widths of Λ hypernuclei using a shell model for, both the nuclear bound and the continuum nucleon wave functions in the final state, and distorted waves for the outgoing pion. An excellent agreement with the recent KEK measurement of π −-decay widths of 12 Λ C and 28 Λ Si is found. Besides, results for 56 Λ Fe are consistent with the existing upper bound.
